Program Description:

Non-Affiliated Study Abroad Program

Webster has a wonderful variety of programs for study abroad students, but we understand that sometimes there may be a specific location or program that you're interested in that Webster doesn't offer. The Office of Study Abroad does permit students to apply for study abroad programs that are outside the normal range of offered programs.

Non-affiliated programs can be through program providers such as Semester at Sea, or can be at international universities in locations where Webster doesn't have a campus or current partner, such as Sweden or Vietnam. No matter the program or location, the Office of Study Abroad will do its best to work with students who wish to participate in a non-affiliated program.

Students can apply for non-affiliated programs during the normal study abroad application cycle. Programs whose applications exist outside of the open application period will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Please read the following before you apply for a non-affiliated program:

Non-affiliated programs are unlike a normal Webster study abroad program - Course equivalencies, accreditation, billing, housing, and other details of non-affiliated programs are the responsibility of the student to coordinate with the OSA, Financial Aid, and other departments prior to being approved for the selected non-affiliated program in which the student wishes to participate. Webster University is not responsible for any lack of proper accreditation, secured housing, visa application procedure, or other incidentals if these items are not fully discussed and disclosed with the Office of Study Abroad prior to program participation or approval.

All non-affiliated programs must be approved by the Director of Study Abroad before the student can participate.

Students should understand that by participating in a non-affiliated program, they will not have the support network of Webster staff or affiliates on site that they would typically have at a Webster campus or international partner location. While the OSA will always do its best to provide the best support possible to all study abroad students no matter their program choice, we may not have the appropriate contacts or in-depth knowledge of a program or location that is outside of our areas of expertise. Students participating in non-affiliated study abroad programs must understand that participating in a non-affiliated program requires more action on their part to coordinate and secure. The Office of Study Abroad does not guarantee approval of participation in a non-affiliated study abroad program. The OSA reserves the right to deny student participation in program locations where travel is deemed unsafe.
