The University of Oviedo, founded in 1574 and one of the oldest universities in Spain, is a public institution of higher education and research in the Principality of Asturias. It is an institution of repute, offering a broad range of degrees, as well as providing a large variety of cultural and sporting activities. Its Spanish Language and Culture Courses for Foreign Students allows participants to expand their knowledge of Spanish and enjoy all that the Principality of Asturias has to offer.

UNIOVI has more than 25,000 students and is located in Oviedo, which has a population of about 225,000 (as of 2012). Oviedo is situated in the center of Asturias, a delightful setting of natural beauty among mountains and valleys; it is just 25 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean (Bay of Biscay - Mar Cantábrico).

Accommodations While Studying Abroad in Oviedo

oviedo_rafting

We understand that moving into a new country means exciting new challenges, but it also can be stressful and concerning. You may ask: What is my room like? Who will be my roommate? How safe and convenient is the housing? All of your concerns and worries are our concerns.

All students live with families (homestays) during the program in order to foster a greater degree of student integration with the local culture and to provide them with the chance to practice the Spanish language. Homestays are off campus and students will need to, depending on location, walk or use public transportation to get to the university.

Students will register locally.  The Spanish level of students is determined by previous course work and by testing upon arrival at Oviedo. Students will not see the final grades on their Webster record until the official transcript arrives from Oviedo and is entered onto their record. Universidad de Oviedo

offers a few classes in English in various disciplines. Some of them could be available to Webster students.
